How to Maintain Hearing Aids for your Loved ones and/or for yourself

If your loved one has hearing aids and lives in a nursing home or assisted living facility, here are some things you can do to make sure they are well maintained:

1️⃣ Label the hearing aids to prevent loss and make it easy to return the hearing aids if found.

2️⃣ Work with the nurses and aides to devise a daily plan for wear. When to put the hearing aids in, where to store them at night, etc. Ensure the nurses and aides are comfortable manipulating the hearing aids, changing the batteries, etc.

3️⃣ Set up a schedule for yourself - change the batteries (if they are daily wear batteries and not rechargeable) and clean the hearing aids when you visit every Sunday, for example.

4️⃣ A cord and clip that attaches to hearing aids can make sure if they come out of your loved one’s ear, they don’t end up on the floor, lost in the chair, or caught up in the sheets and tossed into the wash!

Lastly, at Triangle Sinus Center, we offer consultations and individualized treatment plans to ensure your loved one wears and has help maintaining their hearing aids!
